This is the story of our precious baby boy, who was diagnosed prenatally at
17 weeks with a fatal chromosome disorder called Trisomy 13. Although
Jonathan's condition is considered "not compatible with life", we desired to give
him every chance at life. Our prayer is that those who are touched by our story
are drawn to God, who is Life Himself. John 14:6

missing her brother

like i mentioned in this previous post, kate is very aware of where we are, even when we're driving in the car.

driving to a friend's house this morning, we passed heritage gardens, where jonathan is buried.

this was our conversation as we passed by:

kate: jon-than? hi jon-than!

me: you mean jackson? (i was confused at first, since jackson was the little boy we would be seeing that morning.)

kate: jon-than! please?

me: aw, maybe next time we'll go visit jonathan. you miss him, don't you?

kate: baby jesus.

me: yes, jonathan is with jesus.

*****

everytime we go visit jonathan's grave, kate has the best time. she actually looks forward to going. and when it's time to leave, she always says the same thing: "bye-bye, jon-than! miss you!"

i'm so thankful that my little girl has such a tender heart towards her baby brother who she only met once. i pray she never forgets him.

  2. Lauren - what a sweet story. I put myself in the car wiht you both. I can only imagine how your heart filled up and what emotions filled it while the conversation was unfolding. I think of you often and I hope you are finding comfort and peace :)

  3. Lauren, that's precious. Brelan was so young when we lost Joeli that she doesn't have her own memories of her. Mileigh was born after we lost her so clearly she doesn't either. They both look forward to going to her marker and cleaning it and changing flowers...they always tell her "peace out, I love you" when we leave. Joeli was known for her favorite quote when leaving "peace out, see ya on the flip side"...she was a mess! Ironic how such a fun phrase from such a little girl can have so much meaning and impact bc she will see us on the flip side and until then...she knows peace in a way that we can't begin to imagine. I pray for your family often. Please know that you are thought of and so is Johnathan.

  5. Lauren,
When I read your story it made me smile. Maisie had a similar moment today when we passed by the funeral home where we had Henry's visitation time. She asked 'Can we go see Henry?' and I said 'Henry isn't in the funeral home anymore.' She said 'Is Henry with Jesus?' and I said 'Yes, Henry is with Jesus.' I told my mom today that she is asking the funniest questions about Henry like 'Can he talk now?' or 'Can he walk?' or my favorite 'Does he have teeth?'... I try and answer the best I know how, but these are all things I wonder myself. Don't you just love the way their little minds work? I hope we can meet one day Lauren! Knowing our boys are together with Jesus just makes our being family in Christ even more real to me. I am praying for you still.
